Moon Photography
Recently, while I was trying to photograph bats, I ended up taking some pictures of the moon. I experimented with different shutter speeds and apertures on my camera, and here are some of my favorite moon pictures. I will also include the aperture and shutter speed along with each picture, in case any of you want some nice settings for taking moon pictures.
Blue Moon
Aperture: F4.0
Shutter speed: 1/1000
Brown Moon
Aperture: F8.0
Shutter speed: 1/200
Redish Moon
Aperture: F8.0
Shutter speed: 1/200
White Moon
Aperture: F4.0
Shutter speed: 1/30
The moon is very important to the environment, as it's gravity causes tides, affecting many animals. For example, during high tide, many mussels and other aquatic animals come nearer to shore. However, during low tide, many birds and things can easily pick out the water creatures that ventured out too far.
Also, have you ever seen the man in the moon? Take a look at the moon picture below. I found it on the internet and outlined the dark patches on it in blue. See the the man wearing an old fashioned nightcap? Those dark areas that form him were probably created by a huge asteroid impact 4 billion years ago. For a long time after that there was a magma sea. Now, that sea has hardened, leaving behind that black area.
