Hummingbirds
Hummingbirds have it hard. They have to beat their wings hundreds of times a minute. That's a lot of exertion. And the only way they refill is through drinking nectar and eating bugs, which are not especially nutritious, so they have to feed constantly or die. They make long migratory journeys, like the Ruby-throated Hummingbird that flies across the Gulf of Mexico non-stop. To top it all off, they are threatened by habitat loss. And yet, hummingbirds are among the smallest warm blooded creatures and the smallest birds in the world. They have developed bizarre and amazing fashions, colinized North and South America, and become essential pollinators.
Why not help these little birds and the environment by putting out a hummingbird feeder, or plant some Cardinal Flower? Here's a great place to learn more about helping them:
