Hawk release!

On August 29th, went to see the 2:30 Red-shouldered Hawk release at gulf branch nature center. Although Gulf branch is only a small Virginia park, there are a lot of birds and great hiking trails.

A lot of people were gathered to see the release. We listened to a talk about Red-shouldered hawks, and about how the hawk being released (a juvenile female) was abandoned, found, and cared for by the Virginia Raptor Conservatory. They had to feed it a TON of mice! Now they felt the bird was ready to live in the wild. Presently the bird was taken from it's cage. The bird waited on the keeper's glove, and then soared away. We all applauded; the bird was finally free.
