Albino Squirrel in DC!
Today I was walking to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, and was in between the National Gallery of Art's sculpture garden and The Natural History's pollinator garden. Then I noticed a white flash, and there, in the tree in front of me, was an albino squirrel!
I had read about the rare squirrels in a Washington Post article, and to think that one was right in front of me - I couldn't believe my eyes!
At one point I was photographing him, and he ran into the sidewalk! He surprised and startled some people walking by, but that wasn't the end. He picked up a nut and ate it right in front of me!
I noticed that he was a little more skiddish than the grey squirrels. Perhaps albino squirrels are more conspicous to predators (and people) so they made up for it with speed.
Eventually, the squirrel dissapeared into the National gallery sculpture garden. But from now on, I will always keep an almond on hand!
