Riverbend Trip

I went with my Navigators troop to Riverbend park last Saturday. We saw several creatures that I thought were interesting:

American Bullfrog

Great Blue Heron

An Eastern Kingbird chasing a Red-tailed Hawk! That is one brave bird.

Brown-headed Cowbird - My best picture of one to date. They are parasitic nesters, so they don't make nests of their own. Instead, they watch other birds building nests. When the birds lay eggs, the cowbirds kill the eggs and lay their own eggs in the nest. The birds don't realize that they are raising a cowbird chick.

American Toad

Banana Slug

Northern Water Snake

This was a very interesting trip! I have never seen a water snake or a Banana Slug.
