Banding at Waples Mill Meadow Park
Last Monday, I went with my bird club to band birds at Waples Mill Meadow Park. We started early and walked through the grass to set up nets. Several birds flew into the net throughout the morning.
It was pretty foggy in the morning.
One of the first cool birds - an Eastern Wood-Pewee.

Brown Thrasher preening in the tree
Juvenile Cardinal. After we banded it, I took it over the meadow to where we had caught it, in a paper bag. That was so it's parents could find it.
Praying Mantis
We caught a Ruby-throated Hummingbird in the net! We didn't get to band it because it escaped a few seconds after it flew in. I saw it fly in and get out.
A Song Sparrow we caught. Notice where it's head is.
The same Song Sparrow. In the other picture, his body was in a totally different position, but his head has the same orientation!
